Most of the specialised services listed below can be accessed in any of our normal surgeries. However, there are a few of the services that are managed in dedicated clinics and these are outlined in the descriptions below.
Our midwife Ilya Panda does antenatal clinics at Ferry Road in Rye
Warfarin is a drug that is being increasingly used for a variety of medical conditions. This requires regular monitoring. In order to avoid our patients having to return to the Anticoagulation Clinic at the Conquest Hospital we monitor the warfarin therapy of our patients here at the surgery. This service is carried out by the practice nurses and health care assistants
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease COPD
We are part of the CCG enhanced service for management of COPD. All patients diagnosed with this condition are offered annual spirometry and assessment by their registered doctor
All of the doctors give advice on all forms of contraception. Dr Waters fits coils for the practice and Dr Parnell fits contraceptive implants
We have a counsellor who comes to the surgery and to whom you may be referred by the doctors if they feel it is appropriate.
Dr James, Dr Albardiaz and Dr Parnell do a 3 weekly Cryotherapy clinic at the surgery to treat a variety of benign and malignant skin lesions by freezing them with liquid nitrogen.
We manage most of our diabetics solely at the Practice and review them in dedicated Diabetic Clinics with our Practice Nurses and other professionals as appropriate. We are part of the Hastings & Rother enhanced service for diabetes care and all the doctors and practice nurses attend regular updates on diabetic management.
Ischaemic Heart Disease
We are involved in a scheme in conjunction with the Conquest Hospital to follow-up patients with ischaemic heart disease or strokes. These patients are invited to attend for a blood test and are then seen by the Practice Nurse and the Doctor in a normal surgery. In order to be part of the scheme all the doctors and practice nurses attend annual update sessions
To avoid patients travelling to the Accident and Emergency department at the Conquest Hospital, the practice has always been prepared to see patients with minor injuries at the surgery during normal opening hours. The conditions that we are able to treat here are suturing of lacerations, removing foreign bodies, minor burns and head injuries where there has been no loss of consciousness. This is not an exhaustive list and, if the doctor feels that the injury is not suitable to treat at the surgery, the patient will be referred to Accident and Emergency.
We carry out a wide range of minor surgery at the practice. This involves excising moles and small skin lesions as well as removing in growing toe nails. The minor surgery is done by Drs James, Parnell and Waters
The nurses and health care assistants carry out smoking cessation sessions to help people give up smoking. As well as giving support they can prescribe nicotine replacement patches or medication where appropriate
